What delivery estimates actually mean

"Ships in 2–5 days" and "arrives in 2–5 days" are wildly different promises, and plenty of stores rely on the ambiguity.

Dispatch time

How long before the parcel physically leaves the warehouse. Ours is under 24 hours on business days.

Transit time

How long the courier takes once it has the parcel. This is the number most people care about and the one most often buried.

Customs

Unpredictable and outside anyone's control. International estimates that don't mention customs are best-case numbers.
